SAATEN-UNION UK is involved with a variety of different wheat breeding programs. Our main trials sites are in Cowlinge, Suffolk and in north Lincolnshire.
Firstly, our partnership with Elsoms Seeds means we have access to the Elsoms Wheat Ltd lines. At our trial sites we test these varieties and learn how they are best grown and managed. Looking at inputs such as nitrogen and fungicide inputs as well as learning how they develop during the season.
Our site at Cowlinge also allows us to grow small multiplications of new varieties or grow quality samples for end user analysis.
Through our links with our breeders in Germany we have links to further breeding lines from Europe this brings other traits such as quality and fusarium resistance not seen in conventional UK programs.
Through our partners in Germany, we test a range of Spring Wheat and if this fits the UK market, we will progress these through the UK system.
We carry out official trials for BSPB and AHDB at both of our trial’s sites.
